1. How does SpyLens detect hidden cameras?
SpyLens utilizes three independent detection vectors to identify unauthorized surveillance equipment:
- Local Network Scan: Scans the room's Wi-Fi network for connected IP cameras, video streaming ports (RTSP, ONVIF), and known camera manufacturer MAC addresses.
- Optical Lens Glint Finder: Uses calibrated flashlight strobe pulses and a real-time high-contrast visual filter to reveal retro-reflections from curved glass camera lenses in darkened rooms.
- EMF Magnetic Sniffer: Measures magnetic flux fluctuations using your iPhone's magnetometer to locate transformers and active electronic components behind walls or inside household objects.
2. Why does SpyLens request Local Network and Camera permissions?
These permissions are strictly required for inspection functionality:
- Local Network: Needed by iOS to discover devices connected to the local Wi-Fi router.
- Camera: Needed to display the live optical viewfinder and flash strobe to locate lens reflections.
3. How do I restore my subscription on a new iPhone?
If you already have an active subscription or purchased lifetime access, open SpyLens, navigate to Settings, and tap "Restore Purchases". Your subscription will instantly synchronize with your Apple ID at no additional cost.
4. How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
All subscriptions are billed through Apple. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your Name / Apple ID banner at the very top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select SpyLens and tap Cancel Subscription.
5. What should I do if SpyLens flags a suspicious device?
Don't panic. SpyLens is designed to give you clarity:
- Check the device vendor details provided in the Network list.
- Conduct a physical inspection using our in-app Room Checklist (inspect smoke alarms, digital clocks, power outlets, and mirrors).
- If you find a confirmed unannounced camera in a private space (such as a bedroom or bathroom), take photos for evidence, do not tamper with the device, and notify hotel management or Airbnb support immediately.
6. How do I request a refund?
Because payments are processed directly by Apple, all refund requests must be submitted directly through Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, log in with your Apple ID, find your SpyLens purchase, and select "Request a refund".
